Dan Aykroyd: Harley-Davidson Execs Say Blues Brothers Are “Too Old”
by Steve Gerard
Yesterday evening, Dan Aykroyd wrote to his fans online that he had offered to have the Blues Brothers open for Kid Rock at Harley-Davidson’s 110th anniversary, but executives apparently told him that they were “too old for (their) desired demographic”.
The multi-talented alumnus of Saturday Night Live, where the Blues Brothers (including his BB persona, “Elwood”) got their start, then wryly added to his Facebook post:
“FOR SALE – ELWOOD’S HARLEY. WANTED – 1 SPYDER OLD MAN TRIKE.”
Since posting the message yesterday evening, Aykroyd’s Facebook post has been featured in over 1,400 people’s timelines – exposing the post to their friends as well – through ‘likes’ and ‘shares’, and almost 100 Twitter fans have likewise shared his tweet with the those who follow their posts.
Comments to his Facebook post have been virtually unanimous in condemning this reported slight, with many pointing out that there is a large demographic of older Harley-Davidson owners that the Blues Brothers do appeal to.
